Girlguiding

Girlguiding has four key messages which are at the heart of everything we do:

  • We are for all girls.
  • We give girls their own space.
  • We give girls a voice.
  • We change as the lives of girls change.

We build girls’ confidence and raise their aspirations. We give them the chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good. We give them a space to have fun.

Here on Anglesey, we have groups in all four sections of Girlguiding: Rainbows (5–7 years), Brownies (7–10 years), Guides (10–14 years) and Rangers (14–18 years).

Rainbows is for girls aged 5 to 7. In Rainbows, it’s all about learning by doing.

Rainbows develop self-confidence, build friendships, learn new things and have fun. Girls get their hands dirty with arts and crafts, get in touch with nature and play games.

Rainbows follow a diverse and engaging programme and can take part in lots of different activities with girls their own age.

Brownies is for girls aged 7 to 10, and teaches them about themselves, their community and their world. Brownies introduces girls to new opportunities, challenges and fun.

Girls get together with their friends at regular meetings where they learn new hobbies, get creative, develop skills and have outdoor adventures. They may have the opportunity to go along to camps, holidays, day trips and sleepovers.

As well as trying activities in their meetings, girls choose from interest badges related to things they want to know more about.

Guides have an exciting and varied programme designed to inspire and challenge girls from 10-14.

Guides are encouraged to take a lead in programme planning, choosing from a range of exciting activities in their regular meetings, with the option of special events and trips away.

There are different badges and awards to help learn new skills and try new challenges. Some of this is done by the guide on her own, and other in groups at unit meetings.

Rangers is for all girls aged 14-18.

Rangers meet up regularly and have fun doing activities together. They follow a programme of interest badges, skills builders and awards.

Rangers have opportunities to gain leadership skills, build networks of friends, and try new things in a supportive environment.

Covid-19

No face to face meetings can take place at present. They will only start again when allowed by Girlguiding in line with Government guidance, and after risk assessments of properties and units have been completed.

However, Girlguiding has stayed active in new and imaginative ways over the past year. Many leaders have been sending out activities by post or e-mail for girls to do at home, and some of our units are meeting online. ‘Adventures at Home’ are freely available for everyone on the Girlguiding UK website.

Here on Anglesey, we held a Virtual Sleepover in November 2020 and recently launched 2nd Anglesey (Virtual) Guide and Ranger Unit which meets online. Find out more on our News page.
